After our restful Summer holidays, we are now back in a new class, with lots of new things to learn and do. We look forward to a great year in 5th class.

We have come to the end of a very busy year here at St Brigid's. All our girls have worked very hard both inside and outside the classroom. As well as great wins on the football field, the basketball court and the camogie pitch, we were awarded our sixth Green Flag, the Active School Flag and the Blue Flag for our work on Europe. Second Class and Sixth class celebrated the sacraments of Communion and Confirmation, We had our first ever Intercultural Week and also celebrated Catholic School's Week, Internet Awareness Week, Seachtain na Gaeilge, and Active School's Week, Our Parent's Association organised our first Powered Pedal Cinema which was great fun, and raised lots of money for the school. We wished farewell to our amazing Sixth Class and got to meet and greet our incoming Junior Infants of 2015. Sadly, we said farewell to our beloved former Principal Ms O'Brien. We all miss her and know she is very proud of all our achievements .
Thank you to all our pupils, parents and staff who continue to make St Brigid's such a fantastic school. Wishing you all a restful, happy and safe Summer! Ms Burke Both third classes visited the Botanic Gardens before school finished for the summer. Jennifer from R7 brought her butterfly growing kit and everyone watched in amazement as the butterflies were released. She had nurtured them from small caterpillars through their development to butterflies. It was wonderful. On Fri. 26th June, Room 10 performed The Witch who Nicked Happiness for their friends and family. They worked very hard, learning their lines and giving it their all. It was great fun, enjoyed by actors and audience alike. Flat Stanley has traveled all around the world from Ringsend, Blessington, Leitrim, Belfast, Mayo, Wexford, Donegal, Denmark, England, Japan, Australia, Liverpool and Belarus. He made it home safe and sound, so we brought him along to Tolka Park with us to have some fun.
Me and Flat Stanley went to Tolka Park. We went with all from room 9 and our reading buddies from Ms. Cooney's class. The weather was very nice. Ms. Keogh put sun-cream on us to keep us from burning. To get to the playground we had to cross over the River Tolka. We played in the playground. Flat Stanley went on the slide, the monkey bars and climbed the ropes. We had so much fun. Did you know that the River Tolka in Irish is called 'An Tulcha' which means 'The Flood'. The Tolka is the second largest river in Dublin. The Tolka begins in Dunshaughlin, Co. Meath and continues through Mulhuddart, Blanchardstown, Ashtown, Glasnevin, Drumcondra, Fairview and then enters Dublin Bay between East Wall and Clontarf. I had so much fun learning with Flat Stanley!
Well done to everyone who took part in the lunchtime Gaelic football league over the last number of weeks. You all did really great and we hope you enjoyed it. Meath and Limerick were lucky enough to make it to the final with their managers Anna Farrell and Ruth Fitzgerald. We went down to Na Fianna for it and both teams played really well. Unfortunately someone has to win and it was Meath's day today. Congratulations to them and also to the runners up who did really well to make it that far. A huge thank you to the 6th class girls who managed the teams, set up the pitch each day, refereed, umpired and gave up their lunchtimes for the last few weeks. They were truly fantastic and we could not have done it without them. Have a look at the video below for some pictures of the final.

We had our Harvest Day in the school garden this morning. Terry has been busy growing lots of fruit and vegetables for our Summer Harvest. Every class had a time slot to visit the garden and help him to harvest tasty sugar snap peas, carrots, turnips, radishes and strawberries. He even told us a story about a squirrel visitor who is enjoying our strawberries too! Have a look at the Senior Infants and Junior Infants below picking carrots and sugar snap peas. Some girls got to taste sugarsnap peas for the first time too! Read more about our Garden here. Terry is building a Greenhouse - can you find it in the photos?
What do you guess he will grow in the greenhouse? Comment and share your answer below. On June 12th we visited Tayto Park. We had a lovely day, visiting the factory where the crisps are made, spotting and learning about the different animals, and having a go on the fun rides. |
