Congratulations to the two sixth classes who graduated from St. Brigid's in a lovely ceremony. Mass was celebrated by Fr. Richard, after which the girls received their certificates from our principal, Ms. Burke. The girls sang a song together to conclude the ceremony. Refreshments were provided by the parents association in the hall below the church. The parents association also gave each girl a lovely memento of a bookmark to remind them of their time in St. Brigid's. Congratulations and well done, ladies.

Here in St. Brigid's we are celebrating National Bike Week. We have lots of competitions and prizes organised to encourage the children to cycle to school each day this week.
Ms. Phelan's 6th class worked on the Blue Star programme since last September, learning about the EU and the importance of Europe in our lives. Throughout the year we learned about history, geography and cultural aspects of the EU. We had a lot of fun in doing so. In May for Europe week, we welcomed the Romanian Ambassador, Cllr. Paul McAuliffe and parents to a school assembly to celebrate Europe Day. We are delighted to receive this award, and a European flag in recognition of our work done this year. The girls in 6th class were treated to a fun morning recently with the visit of Mr. Bubbles. He showed them many varied and interesting ways to produce bubbles of all sizes, and have much fun in creating their own. Thanks to an invitation by Cllr. Paul McAuliffe, the girls in Mrs. Phelan's 6th class had a wonderful tour of City Hall today. After a brief introduction to City Hall, Cllr. McAuliffe proceeded to show the girls the chamber where Dublin city councillors hold their meetings. The girls loved the opportunity of speaking into the microphones, and seeing how votes are taken in the chamber, as well as the process involved when a new mayor is to be elected. This was followed by tour of the museum, where the chains of office are on display, as well as an outline of the history of Dublin City. A huge thank you to Cllr. McAuliffe for enabling the class to have the chance to visit City Hall, and for providing worksheets for the girls to work on during their visit. Having won the Dublin basketball league final in February, the girls of St. Brigid's returned to the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght today to participate in the Dublin Senior 'B' tournament. This was a round robin competition, comprising five teams, including St. Brigid's. We began on a positive note, winning our first game 16:2. Our second game was a much closer affair, but we edged out winners on a score line of 10:6. We won our third and fourth games comprehensively to take the title, and the trophy, home to Glasnevin. Every girl played her heart out, and contributed to this super win. Four girls did table officiating, and what a great job they did as well. I was so proud of the team. Since October, they have trained hard and put into practice what they learned during the year. On behalf of our basketball team, Sarah Cullen(R.14) and her sister, Hannah(R.16) were co-captains in accepting the trophy. Well done, everyone. You were, and are, amazing!! Ms. Phelan Today in room 9 we were learning all about the sun and telling the time. We went outside at 9:30am and drew our shadows. They were very long. We went back outside at 1pm and our shadows had now changed direction and they were very short. The sun had moved! We then had to chase our friends shadows. It was great fun. This week in Ms. McGrath's class we were working on grammar, story writing and recount writing. Sophia in Rm. 12 wrote a fantastic story, taking inspiration from a picture of an old junk shop. Sophia worked very hard to create beautiful descriptive sentences and when you read her story you'll feel like you're in "Tom's Amazing Junk Shop" yourself. Below you will find Sophia's story and the picture that inspired it. Comment below telling us what sort of shop you would run if you were Tom. The Old Junk ShopOne day I went into an old junk shop. It was very dusty and untidy. The shop was full with large and small items; but I didn't know what to choose. There were things from the olden days like a pram, a doll and a top hat. There was a skeleton for science and instruments for music. Rackets and baseball bats and golf clubs for sports were in every box. After looking around I decided to clean up the shop. Then I brushed the floor, cleaned the windows and I used the mop to clean up the cobwebs.I found a can of old turquoise blue paint and a painting brush. I climbed up a rusty old ladder and started to paint the walls, the doors and the windows. After that I went outside and thought to myself maybe I need a sign and some lights. On my sign it said Tom's Amazing New Junk Shop, with lights around it. I decided to become the shopkeeper and make sure I had my shop ready for customers.
On Friday 5th June Room 10 performed a rocking 'Times Tables' concert for their parents and the children in the school. They were accompanied by musicians Peter (who wrote the songs), Claire, Patrick and Stephen. Well done girls - this certainly makes learning the times tables a lot of fun!
