In our first experiment, we took a look at what happens when you mix soil and water together. We half filled a jar with soil and we added enough water to nearly fill the jar. We then gave it a good stir. We had a talk about what we thought it would look like an hour later. Some of us thought we would see grass, carrots or even white flowers! Some of us thought the soil might sink to the bottom. An hour later, the water was floating on the top and the soil had indeed sunk to the bottom. We recorded and drew our findings and we took some photos of our investigation. We also took a photo of what the soil sample looked like the next day.

Sen. Infants R. 2 buddy with 5th Class R.16 to visit the Sculptures in the Botanic Gardens25/9/2015 Senior infants and 5th class visited the Sculptures in Context Exhibition in the Botanic Gardens this morning. What a lovely sunny day to visit, and see many colourful flowers still in bloom. There were lots of interesting sculptures to see as well on our visit.
We hope to buddy up again in the future to work on different projects between our two classes. We made lots of new friends today. Last Friday, we visited the Botanic Gardens to see the Sculptures in Context exhibition. We were amazed by the variety of colours, textures, shapes and sizes of the creations. We really enjoyed sketching our favourites (even though we were under attack from some pesky squirrels ;-)) and we loved how imaginative the sculptures were. It gave us lots of ideas to use in our own artwork. Thanks to Ms. Freeman for coming with us on the day. Click here to see our drawings in oil pastels! The pupils from 4th and 5th classes were delighted to have an author visit them in school this morning. Martin Brennan, who has a pseudonym of Edward Crane, was in St. Brigid's to talk about his trilogy of books about the Havishams. During his visit,he talked about the length of time it takes to write books, how to create characters, and be creative in our story-writing. We were delighted to have some of the first chapter read to us, and to hear the plots of the books.
Thanks to Martin for his time and enthusiasm in helping us to see how great writing stories of all kinds can be.

We had a Jersey Day on Friday in the run up to the All Ireland to raise money for Goal and the people in Syria. In 4th class we designed jerseys, researched the Sam Maguire, based our Irish and History lessons on the GAA and played a game of Gaelic football.
There was a wonderful variety of jerseys on display with the majority of course dressed in their blue to support the Dubs. Ms O' Donoghue was flying the flag for Kerry in Junior Infants and we'll all be very nice to her this week as she gets over her disappointment. Congratulations to the Dublin team from all in St. Brigids. :-) Check out some pictures from the day in this video:

We had a great visit to the Hugh Lane Gallery to learn about Francis Bacon, his paintings and the wonderful studio he worked in in London until he died in 1992. This studio was then brought to the Hugh Lane Gallery over a course of 6 years. After viewing the studio, it was time for us to recreate our own mini studios. It was great fun doing this, and we came back to school with many colourful pieces of work.
Our Welcome Meetings will take place tomorrow evening September 15th at 7.00 pm in your daughters' classrooms. This will be a chance for parents to meet class teachers and hear about the plan for the year ahead. The meetings will take no longer than 40 minutes. We hope to see you all there!
