The girls in room 7 have been working hard during their first half term in first class. Let's have a look at some of what they have been getting up to so far! As part of the Maths Week the two 6th classes went to the Helix to observe Andrew Jeffrey do many maths tricks and problems. It was great to see this Mathemagician show us that maths can be lots of fun and we can all enjoy maths in lots of ways. Well done to St. Brigid's basketball team who beat Scoil Mobhi in their league match yesterday. Having won their game against St. Brigid's Wellmount last week as well, our school team is playing really well. Our next game is against Raheny here in St. Brigid's next Tuesday. A big thanks to our great supporters who were with us yesterday. 6th class solved puzzles printed on pumpkin shapes during their maths lesson. They then cut out the shapes and put them together to get a lovely pumpkin pie!
This is Maths Week and we in St. Brigid's are having lots of fun activities in our school for the week. Puzzles, maths trails, guessing Cheerios, going to a maths mathemagician...all part of Maths week for the pupils.
Below is an example of a puzzler...all pupils-and parents- are willing to give it a try! ![]() St. Brigid's have registered for the Cheerios Childline Breakfast again this year. It will run from the 17th-21st October. Children will be asked to bring in a plastic bowl and spoon on a specific day. We are suggesting to children to bring in a donation of €2 for Childline. We are also running a competition, were people can guess how many cheerios are in the jar. The jar will be kept inside the front door each morning next week. People are welcome to take a guess for 20c. The winner will win some Cheerios and a surprise. Winner announced on Friday 21st October. Goodluck! On October 10 the 6th class girls went to a moons workshop in completion of their Space Week projects. This moons workshop introduced and explained 10 moons in our solar system, most of which had never been heard of before. After the introduction to the moons, the girls got an opportunity to draw their favourite moon, and what an excellent job they made of this. The workshop concluded with a short documentary on the moon known to us all...earth's moon! Room 14 were busy rolling up their sleeves and cooking up a storm last week as they explored the theme of 'Bia' as Gaeilge. Delicious desserts were the order of the day (but don't worry we ate all of our healthy lunches too)! The girls did a great job translating their yummy recipes into Irish and should be proud of the effort they made to speak the language so well.
Here's a small selection of some of our work! Well done everyone- maith sibh! ;-) St. Brigid's would like to wish Kathleen, our longest serving member of staff, a happy retirement. Kathleen has been a member of our staff since 1980. Although, the children may never have met Kathleen, they always knew that she had been in their classroom, as she left the place immaculate. We hope you enjoy your retirement and come visit us soon. |
