This month all of us at St. Brigid's will be focusing on the value of 'Truth'. The related weekly sub-values this month will be 'Fairness' for the week leading up to the Easter holidays and then 'Being Honest' for the week following the holidays.

It's time again to take a look back at last month's values activities from around the school in our latest values slideshow . This time it's all about Right Action! Our 2nd Class girls have a real treat in store for you budding gardeners! We have been busy painting terracotta pots ahead of the Easter Fair on April 9th. We used acrylic paint and brushes or just plain old thumbs and fingers to create some bug-inspired pieces. We have some sleek, glossy versions, as well as some aged, rustic pieces which were soaked through, washed with paint, sanded down and finished off with some gardener’s twine. Each piece has been signed by the artist and is sure to be a talking point in your kitchen or garden. See a sample selection below.
10 girls from St. Brigid's took part in the Northside semi final of Dublin's Fittest Schools competition in Blanchardstown I.T. on Fri. March 24th last. It was a full days activities to determine which school would progress to the final. The girls were super in their attitude and participation in activities such as sprinting, jumping, basketball shooting and blindfolded balancing! A great day was had, and even though we didn't progress to the final, the girls did themselves and their school proud. Well done ladies!! We've been busy in 2nd Class finding out about the parts of a tree. We have also been learning about where native Irish trees came from. We took to the outdoors to work as scientists, observing the detail of trees and recording the information. We also talked about trees providing habitat for all sorts of insects, birds and animals. We looked at trees providing wood for building and pulp for making paper. We remembered how trees help to keep our air clean. We learned that there are two main types of tree: deciduous and evergreen. Did you know that a healthy evergreen is never completely without its leaves? And that deciduous trees lose all their leaves for part of the year? Finally, we learned that leaves contain a substance called chlorophyll, which gives them their green colour.
We painted square canvas panels to create our very own coasters as unique Mother's Day gifts. It was our first time using acrylic paint and we really enjoyed it. We were asked to give our work a title, which was new and exciting too.
'Now, where's that cup of tea?' The girls in 6th class were busy this week creating mini projects about their mothers for Mothers Day this Sunday. They also created 'ice-creams' with the special words they associate with their mams. Happy Mother's Day to all the great mammies and grannies of St. Brigid's.
The girls in room 7 recently interviewed Sr. Teresa O' Halloran for a history study. Sr. Teresa is a Holy Faith nun and has spent the majority of her life teaching the children of St. Brigid's school. Although now retired she still pops in occasionally to chat with the children (and dole out gifts and toys!) and is known and loved by all of us here at the school.
