Second class made their First Holy Communion on Saturday 23rd May 2015. It had been raining all week and the children were all very worried that it would rain on the day. We said our prayers each day and prayed for good weather. Our prayers were certainly answered because Saturday was a beautiful sunny day. The girls were all beautiful and had big smiles on their faces throughout the day. On Tuesday, the children came into school to show off their dresses, here are some snaps of them....

To celebrate our First Holy Communion we had a Pamper Pyjama Party. We had a chocolate fountain with marshmallows. We decorated our cupcakes with pink icing, flowers and pearls. We got our nails done and had a fantastic fun day.
![]() It is celebration time in St. Brigid's as we received our Green Flag in the Helix last Tuesday, 19th May! We were the only school to be awarded a 6th Green Flag on the day so well done to everyone involved- remember, together we can make a difference! As our motto says, 'We Come Together to Protect the World Forever!' CLICK ON THE PICTURE to read more about the day! Chualamar sceal i rang Gaeilge faoi rang a sé agus bhí lá gan éide scoi acu. Mar sin, bhíomar gléasta suas ar maidin ar scoil mar atá sa phictiúr thuas. Bhí eadaí ildaite orainn. Cé go bhfuil na laethanta saoire an tsamhraidh ag teacht, bhí buicéad agus spád ag roinnt de na cailíni freisin, agus spéaclaí gréine ar chailíni eile. Bhaineamar taitneamh as an lá seo!
Mrs. Phelan's 6th class had really good fun at the Irish Aid workshop. We split into 2 groups and half watched a video while half learned a song called 'bring in the washing'. We also played the bongos and dressed up in national clothes. We learned about a girl named Memory who is 18 and lives in a very poor village. She gets up at 5 in the morning and makes her little sisters breakfast and then she does some chores and goes to school. Though she doesn't have things like wifi and electricity, she and her family are very happy. Memory wants to do well to get a good job to help support her family. Terri, R.16 6th class R. 16, were delighted to receive an invitation to attend the CBI Book of the Year awards recently. Having closely read the books on the shortlist and voted for their favourite, they were delighted to hear the overall winner Oliver Jeffers being named. Several of their favourite Irish authors were also at the ceremony. Two girls, Sama and Gunjan from R.16 were thrilled to meet their favourite author, Sarah Crossan, author of Apple and Rain!
We have been learning about animals in Ms. McGrath's class. We learned about farm animals and wild animals. There are lots of different animals that live on the farm. Cows, sheep, horses and pigs all live on the farm. The farmer looks after all his animals.
We can visit wild animals in the zoo. The zookeepers look after all the animals in the zoo. we talked about our favourite animals. Tiria's favourite animals are deer, squirrels and horses. Octavia's favourite animals are squirrels, deer and turtles. Ms. McGrath's favourite animals are elephants, owls and penguins. We really enjoyed learning about animals. Look at the pictures we found of our favourite animals below. What is your favourite animal? Comment below to let us know. Room 9 went on a mini beast hunt to explore insects and their habitats. We found worms, wood lice, spiders, centipedes, slugs and ants. Last week we learned lots about ants. We found out that ants have stingers and that they can carry a 100 times their weight. The queen ant lays eggs under ground and these are called 'grubs'. Grubs grow into worker ants. The workers build the nest and gather food, while the queen goes on laying eggs. The nest may contain over a million ants.
