Here in room 7, we have been working with clay the last couple of weeks. This week we decided to make something. Firstly, we rolled our piece of clay into a ball and then used our thumbs to make a hole. Afterwards, we used tools to decorate our bowls, cups and candle holders. We now have to leave them to dry and then we can paint them.

We kicked off Science Week with a magic trick. The secret lay inside, of all things, a Pampers nappy! We made raisins dance up and down in a mix of bicarbonate of soda and white vinegar. We looked at what happens to a cut apple, with and without lemon juice squeezed over it. We explored how a smell fills a room and realised why natural gas has a chemical added to it to make it smell. Finally, we had our blast off moment using only a Vitamin C tablet, its container and some water. The girls in 5th class were delighted to attend a presentation by Italian astronaut, Paolo Nespoli, in DCU as part of Science Week 2015. He was very informative, and we learned a lot about the life of an astronaut and the tough training involved in becoming one. Nespoli was part of the 2007 Space Shuttle Discovery mission, as well as being part of the International Space Station programme in 2010. He is currently training to revisit the ISS in 2017. Parent-Teacher meetings will take place this week on Tuesday November 10th and Thursday November 12th between 3.00 and 5.30 pm. If, for any reason you can't attend the parent teacher meeting please let us know and we will reschedule your appointment.
We were delighted to have Barbara Binkert-Hug, a German teacher who worked on our Comenius project with us, visit our school today. Barbara visited several of our classes, and enjoyed speaking to and listening to the children during her visit. She was very impressed with the girls, and loved especially listening to them speaking Irish!
Below is a photo of her with the 5th class girls in Room 16. A recipe for Gingerbread Men/Women First class, room 7, had great fun celebrating Halloween this year.. We played lots of traditional and new Halloween games, like, bob the apple and spaghetti witches brains. YUCK! We then made chocolate apples. Afterwards we shared the Bairín Breac and Ava found the ring. :) We also had the best home made costume which was a big present. See our photos below... A special congratulations to the girls who scored over 100 points on Mangahigh.com. They had to complete a lot of online maths challenges to achieve such AMAZING results! They were Febi & Sophie (R16), Lizzy and Lucie (R13), Ellen (R14) and Laura (R 15).
The girls were delighted to receive fabulous Gold Medals today from Mangahigh.com - St. Brigid's own 'Mathematicians' in the making! |
